This is the first draft of "Temporary Arrangement," the alternating time signatures of which underscore the lyrical theme of temporality, uncertainty, and dynamic. This piece was designed for live bass, drums, and vocals.

It includes a polyrhythmic 3 against 2, followed by:
5/4; 6/8; 6/8; 8/8; ||:
8/8; 7/8; 6/8; 5/8;

We know how to talk about it
so that we don't get our wires crossed.
There is more than one element to this confidential conversation.

You won't be here in another
couple of weeks, so do not settle in.
We know good and well this is only a temporary situation.

All of us. All of a sudden.

Mistakes are made by all parties.
We fix what we can and hide the rest.
We take responsibility for the manageable consequences.

A grudge is surely to follow
with blame given on every side.
We will take time and eventually we will mend our fences.
